IRON MAIDEN: The SHIRLEY Daily Recording Update
January 17, 2003IRON MAIDEN producer Kevin Shirley, who is currently working with the band at a London studio on their as-yet-untitled follow-up to 2000's "Brave New World", has posted the following recording update via his official web site:
"Thur 16th – Engineer's Log! Slow start today - big meeting with Sanctuary bods. As far as the Brew go, we hope the stage set will have a bit of a Willy Wonka vibe - free Cadburys whole nut for everybody (Nicko will be pleased). Not the most productive of days (recording-wise) but started work on a track that, when nailed, will be an epic. Kevin got all Kubrick on us and got busy with his handycam. Music! Films! The man must have Jedi reflexes. Finally, thanks for the e-mails but there is no way that we are gonna give out track names or send mp3's. Are you pissed or what!! TTFN The Brew.
"What do they say, 'give 'em an inch...!' Well, Steve got back today, which was nonetheless disrupted by a meeting at the start, and which seemed to affect the headspace of everyone - nevertheless it was in fact a very productive day as we worked on a very special track, totally amazing, and quite complex, and it was far more draining than some of the more straight forward numbers we've tackled thus far. I think I may have even heard a few raised voices as we worked on tightening up all the different parts and arrangements, but nothing like the furor over who was the best-dressed man of the day (at right),something we finally settled over a glass of Australian Cabernet ('...tastes like Ribena!' - Adrian!),and we should get the big track done tomorrow, which would be a wonderful end to our second week! Got some blinding solos yesterday, Davey dug out a new Wayne Charvel black 'Strat' which sounded super creamy, and the other two nailed their solos with Fender's all hot-rodded with Seymour Duncan pick-ups. The leedle prince got to see some of the track played, which was a big thrill for him, as he is a bit of a MAIDEN fan himself! * I'm thrilled with the new Formula 1 regulations - and very excited for this season, as I aim to get to four Grands Prix in the year, Monaco, Barcelona, Montreal and Indy! If anyone has insider access to pit passes, bring it on! And that's it for today, hasta la pasta..."
